Product Description
Use our beautiful AMMONITE fossil replica for displays, science reports, for diorams on extinct sea life or part of a fossil collection. This is perfect for school use.
Our Plastic Ammonite This beautiful replica of an ammonite fossil measures 1 3/4 inches across. It shows clearly the spirals of the fossil's exoskeleton, the trait which distinguishes this molusc from other early arthropods. The name ammonite comes from Egyptian mythology in which the god Amun wore ram's horns. This particular example is from the genus Peltoceratoides, a type of ammonite found in Russia. It has long, tight, distinctly rounded curls. Although this animal thrived in the Jurassic Period (200 -150 mya), ammonites appeared on the evolutionary scene earlier in the Devonian Period. This early sea dweller which is more closely related to the squids, octopuses and cuttlefish is useful for displays, decorations, science projects, and dioramas pertaining to extinct sea animals. Give one to the fossil hound in your family or make it your personal pet! See our other ammonite miniatures, other extinct sea creatures and Jurassic Period extinct animals.
