Our Green and Black Poison Dart Frog This beautiful example of a green and black poison dart frog is made of solid plastic and is 1 3/4 inches long. Most likely it represents Dendrobates tinctorius auratus, the dyeing poison dart frog. This amazing amphibian can appear in blue, green or yellow and is largest in size of poison dart frogs, coming in at 2 inches! This genus of Poison Dart Frog is prevalent in South American rainforests and swamps. These frogs are great parents and carry tadpoles on their backs to safe watering spots in trees, pockets of water or or into bromeliads. It takes six weeks for the tadpole to develop into an adult. Although not classified as endangered, poison dart frog habitat is subject to degradation due to logging and agriculture. Also up until recently, these frogs were captured as a part of the exotic pet trade and during transport many died.
