Wombats are a common 4-legged Australian animal about 3 feet long with a short tail. They are found in the mountains and forests of Tasmania and Southeastern Australia. They dig burrows and are noted for a back-facing pouch in order to keep their young free of dirt. They are seen at dusk, dawn and at night and tend to sleep during the day. Wombats are herbivores and have teeth similar to rodents. They are prey to dingos and Tasmanian devils. They allow these animals to stick their faces in the burrow and then kick them mightily in the face.
