You may know the pumpkinseed fish by other names such as the sunfish or pond perch among others. This fish is part of the sunfish family and was originally found on the east coast from New Brunswick to South Carolina and inland to Iowa and back up to Pennsylvania. These days it has been introduced in other parts of the country making it prevalent in fresh water nearly everywhere in the United States.
