Product Description
Use our lovely detailed SEA SCORPION toy fossil for science projects, displays, decorations and as a keepsake for the fossil lover of your family.
Our Sea Scorpion (Eurypterid) This detailed example of a sea scorpion is 2 1/4 inches long and is made of hard plastic. True eurypterids were about 8 inches long, yet one genus had members exceeding 8 feet long, making them the largest arthropods that have ever lived. Our sea scorpion is from the genus Mixopterus, a smaller sea scorpion which lived in the seas near present day Norway. Sea scorpions preyed on trilobites and flourished during both Silurian and Ordovician times (488-443 mya). They are ancient arachnids, making them early relatives of spiders and modern scorpions. Our replica shows clearly the chelae (claws) and the rounded segmented body of the scorpion, and makes for an excellent educational toy, science project item or diorama animal. See our other extinct sea creatures and especially our trilobites.
