About Chocolate Burmese Cats The Chocolate Burmese Cat is named after its country of origin, Burma, which is now known as Myanmar. Myanmar is northeast of Thailand. The Chocolate Burmese Cat is descended from an ancient and royal lineage of cats, the Siamese. The history of this species is shrouded in mystery. "Wong Mau" was the first Chocolate Burmese Cat, whose owner was Dr. Joseph Thompson, a Naval Officer who brought "Wong Mau" to the port of San Francisco in the 1930's, where he established a "cattery" which he called "Mau Tien" or "cat heaven." The Chocolate Burmese is a compactly built cat with a small round head and wide-set eyes which are yellow or golden, and this species has a fine, close, even glossy chocolate colored silky-smooth coat with a satin-like texture. A mature male may be large, but the female is delicate and very graceful. The difference between the male and female might be as much as two or three pounds. A Burmese's tail is tapered. A Burmese cat is extremely playful and curious and will want to climb into small spaces inspect every part of the home, sleep in bed with the humans, and play with the children, the adults and other animals. The short hair makes this species easy to groom, and petting is just about all it will need. Of course, with the Burmese cat, the human may find that the cat will expect to be allowed to help type on the computer, sweep the floor and make the bed, and will probably want to sleep with the family, even climb under covers. A very playful species, the Burmese make one of the best choices for a pet owner who doesn't mind giving their cat lots of love and attention. Chocolate Burmese text Copyright 2014
