Product Description
This detailed plastic model of an Eskimo hunter is well-made and realistic in both color and appearance. The hunter is 2 3/8 inches tall, but the spear makes the figure larger. The eskimo hunter fits well in a diorama for a school project about Alaska, the Arctic or native peoples. It is also a useful item for people who collect figures representing different cultures. Eskimo is an English term for the indigenous peoples who have traditionally inhabited the northern circumpolar region from eastern Siberia (Russia) to across Alaska (of the United States), Canada, and Greenland. The word "Eskimo" derives from phrases that Algonquin tribes used for their northern neighbors. The Inuit and Yupik peoples generally do not use it to refer to themselves, and the governments in Canada and Greenland have ceased using it in official documents. The Inuit have traditionally been fishers and hunters. They still hunt whales (esp. bowhead whale), walrus, caribou, seal, polar bears, muskoxen, birds, and fish and at times other less commonly eaten animals such as the Arctic fox. The typical Inuit diet is high in protein and very high in fat – in their traditional diets, Inuit consumed an average of 75% of their daily energy intake from fat.
